Cultivating a Green Workforce for Sustainable Agriculture in the Peruvian Amazon
What does it take to spark a paradigm shift in the Peruvian Amazon, moving away from destructive ranching towards regenerative silvopasture and agroforestry? At the heart of this transformation lies the need for a workforce ready to embrace the opportunities of the green economy.
Last Friday, we took a significant step towards this vision by hosting over 50 rural women from diverse backgrounds at our inaugural workshop. Generously funded by The Open University and The Old Dart Foundation the workshop aimed to inspire and educate these women about careers in sustainable agriculture, starting with hands-on experiences in our tree nursery.
Nestled in the heart of Ucayali, the Amazonian women enjoyed a full day at our Esperanza nursery, engaging in practical activities such as pest management, pruning techniques, seed germination, and plant propagation. The highlight of the day was insightful sessions led by experienced women from our nursery team, who shared their personal journeys and offered valuable advice on succeeding in sustainable agriculture. The interactive sessions allowed ample time for questions and discussions.
We’re thrilled to share some captivating moments captured during the workshop. We’re determined that the growth of the green economy will be social inclusive and ensure gender equality.
